  • BRCV attains NRA Gold Medal status for the 5th year in a row

The Blue Ridge Cherry Valley Rod and Gun club has done it again. For the fifth year in a row the NRA has awarded us Gold Medal Club status.

To qualify as a Gold medal club the following requirements must be met:

    • Be a 100% NRA Club
    • Have a Club Newsletter
    • Belong to the NRA State Association in your state
    • Have administered or currently incorporate a NRA Youth Program into your club agenda
    • Be an active participant in the NRA Membership Recruiting Program

I’m happy to report that our club meets and often exceeds the aforementioned requirements.

Congratulation to our members who have generously given their time and support to the club and to our Board of Directors who work tirelessly to make BRCV the outstanding club that it is!

The NRA is sending a 2016 plate to update the gold medal plaque in the clubhouse. Below a copy of the letter sent to us by the NRA:

  • On March 20 BRCV conducted a special Basic Pistol course for the Civil Air Patrol

The cadets had an amazing time and loved our staff and our staff really enjoyed working with these fine young men and women.

Blue Ridge Cherry Valley Rod & Gun Club wishes these cadets success with their future endeavors and salutes them for their service with the Civil Air Patrol. We hope that they will continue to practice the skills they learned at our club.

  • Background Check Requirements for Volunteers

Beginning July 1, 2015, volunteers who serve in roles where they will be supervising children were required to obtain background checks, including the Child Abuse History Clearance issued by the Department of Human Services and the Criminal History Record Check issued by the Pennsylvania State Police.

If you have been a continuous resident of Pennsylvania for the last ten years, you will simply need to affirm in writing that you are not disqualified from service based upon a conviction of a criminal offense. A copy of the form is provided through the Department of Human Services.

Fees to obtain background checks under the new Child Protective Services Law are waived for volunteers effective July 25, 2015.

Volunteers who have not been a continuous resident of Pennsylvania for the last ten years also will need to obtain the FBI fingerprint background checks. Because these checks are issued by the federal government, their current fee would still apply.

Convictions of a drug offense within the past five years would disqualify you from serving as a volunteer who works with children.

As part of the new law, background check clearances will be good for five (5) years. Once the clearances are obtained, a volunteer may use those same clearances across other volunteer organizations.

    Requirement Guidelines

  • 5/30&31/2015 – A busy weekend at BRCV

The weather has warmed, the ranges have dried out and training season is in full effect at the Blue Ridge Cherry Valley Rod & Gun Club.

On Saturday, 5/30, our Vice President, Michael Sak and a large group of instructors lead a full house of participants thru the NRA Basic Pistol course. This class had a number of outstanding new shooters who showed the type of safe firearms handling skills that the club seeks to cultivate. Congratulations to all the students, everyone who attended passed the course. Thank you to all the instructors who made this a fun and exciting day for everyone.

On Sunday, 5/31 Monroe County Wildlife Conservation Officer Bryan Mower and instructors Randy Strunk, Michael Omelczenko, Kenneth Shumski and Arthur Krueger led 10 students thru the Pennsylvania Hunter-Trapper Education course. In speaking with these instructors it is obvious that they are all very passionate about hunting and each shared terrific information that you just cannot obtain in an on-line course. All who attended the course received their PA Hunter Trapper Education Training Certificate with several students posting perfect scores on their qualification exams. The next Pennsylvania Hunter-Trapper Education course at BRCV is scheduled for 7/26/15 and is required for anyone who desires to hunt in the great state of Pennsylvania. Even if you aren’t sure if you are going to hunt, this is a great course that all BRCV members are encouraged to take.
