FIREARM SAFETY IS EVERY MEMBER’S RESPONSIBILITY

Blue Ridge Cherry Valley Rod and Gun Club is proud to be a member of the National Rifle Association and follow their Code of Conduct for Safe Firearm Handling:

  1. ALWAYS KEEP THE FIREARM POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION
  2. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO SHOOT
  3. ALWAYS KEEP THE FIREARM UNLOADED UNTIL READY TO USE
  4. ALWAYS KNOW YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND

We are also proudly affiliated with the following organizations:

   
Membership: Dues payable/memberships renewable at the September annual meeting.
NRA basic certification in Pistol or Rifle or Shotgun or NRA Home Firearm Safety is a membership Requirement*
Current NRA membership is a requirement*
HOURS: Shooting hours:
Monday Through Saturday:  9:00 am until Sunset.

 

Sunday-1:00 pm until Sunset.
(*Post-Sunset shooting allowed:
Mondays–Pistol Clinic,
Wednesdays–Bulls-Eye Shooting,
Thursday–IDPA Practice
and any announced/approved club events).
*Anyone found shooting Post-Sunset outside of the allowable times
listed above will have their club access shut off and will be summoned to BRCV’s Board of Governors*
 

SPECIAL CLOSING PERIOD:
For Safety Reasons all ranges will be CLOSED to live fire during the first two weeks of the Firearm Deer Season:
which begins the first Saturday after Thanksgiving.
(During this period evening shooting events will not begin prior to 6:00pm)
RANGES: BRCV has two shooting ranges:

 

The Lower Range (50, 100 & 150 yard) shooting range allows Rifle, Shotgun and Handgun, each having their own area and limitations.

The Upper Range (50 yard) is exclusively dedicated to Handgun shooting with one exception; permitting the use of rim fire and carbine rifles.

No shotgun shooting is allowed on the upper range.
TARGETS:
  • BRCV Club approved Steel Targets, Clay targets and Paper targets.
    • Paper targets are to be stapled to cardboard backings, fastened to club-provided target stands.
  • Hit the berm/backstop: Position your targets such that bullets passing through them will impact only the backstop.
    • Note! – Club approved steel targets are provided on the Rifle Range at 100 yard and 150 yards.
    • Minimum shooting distance is not to be less than 100 yards for Center Fire Rifles.
  • Not Permitted:
    • Metal targets, cans, bottles, any ground targets or exploding targets. Barrels and/or frame support posts are not approved target stands.
FIREARMS: Rifles and Shotguns brought onto or taken from cub property MUST be Unloaded and Actions Open.

 

Handguns may be carried on BRCV Club property as long as the method of carry is in strict accordance with all Pennsylvania State Laws and Regulations.
Firearms not in actual use (including handguns NOT in safe carry mode), must be stored unloaded, actions open, and cased or racked while at shooting area.

Not Permitted: Full-Automatic firearms and 50cal. BMG.

Rapid fire: minimum 3 second intervals on All Center Fire Rifles.
AMMUNITION: NO TRACER AMMUNITION
NO ARMOR PIERCING AMMUNITION

 

  • Your “Live” / Non-fired Ammunition MUST NOT be left anywhere on club property.
  •  Your “Live” / Non-fired Ammunition MUST LEAVE WITH YOU !
SAFETY: All shooters and spectators must adhere to the following safety precautions:

 

  • EYE and EAR protection is required, not optional, for anyone on or near the firing line.
    NOTE – Hearing Protection will be mandatory on the firing line for Members joining BRCV.
  • BRCV gate access card must be carried at all times (on lanyard or visible pinned) and shown when asked.
  • Before going downrange, call “cease fire” and check that all firing points are made safe:
    • actions open,
    • chamber(s), cylinder(s) empty,
    • empty chamber indicators in place (chamber flags), and
    • muzzles pointed down range!.
    • That All have stepped back from the shooting bench or port ( ALL are behind the safety line);
    • Turn on the red warning light, and declare the line is cold
    • DO NOT HANDLE FIREARMS or EQUIPMENT until
    • everyone has returned from downrange,
    • the red warning light has been turned off,
    • the “ALL CLEAR” announced, and the line has been declared ‘HOT’.
  • Pick up your spent brass; make sure that you take any live rounds with you.
  • Discard targets in the waste paper containers on each range.
  • Discard larger debris in the dumpster located in the lower parking lot.
  • Turn off lights (unless they are on a timer), lock doors, and leave the site better than you found it.
  
NON-MEMBERS: BRCV welcomes non-members to club-sanctioned events and Tournaments, as listed on the BRCV club’s calendar.

 

Waivers will be provided and are necessary for all non-members.

 

Spectators must remain behind any designated firing line.
Safe distance will be determined by the attending Range Safety Officer.

Anyone under the age of 18, whether shooting or watching, must be under the SUPERVISION of a parent or responsible adult.
GENERAL:
  • The Club’s Chief Range Safety Officer may alter the range regulations depending on special conditions related to shooting events or activities.
  • Changes, if any, will be outlined by Match Director of the event.

Alcohol is not permitted on club property at any time.

VIOLATION OF CLUB RULES OR REGULATIONS – Article H of BRCV’s By-laws States:

“If at any time charges of major violations of the rules or regulations of the club, or of any offense committed in detriment to the welfare of the club be brought against any member, the Board of Governors reserves the right to eject said member from the club by a majority vote of the members of the Board of Governors present; provided the accused member is notified by Registered Letter to be present at the meeting and be given the opportunity to defend his case.”
